With a mission to inspire and empower women to fulfill their philanthropic potential by improving the quality of health care in our community, more than 150 women gather annually to collectively decide where their giving will be used within the not-for-profit hospitals of Morton Plant Mease. Ptak Alzheimer's Research Center
2023 Grant Funding:Ptak Alzheimer's Research CenterAlzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia — a general term for the loss of memory and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. The Center provides care to patients with memory loss disorders using a multi-disciplinary approach with the goal of reducing the long-term impact of memory disorders and helping the patient live a more functional life.
Dr. George Morris Earn As You Learn
2023 Grant Funding:Dr. George Morris Earn As You LearnThe Dr. George Morris Earn As You Learn Nursing Program helps foster the growth of our team members to enter or advance in the nursing profession by providing books and access to needs-based financial scholarships so they can better focus on school while continuing to support their families and advance their careers while working in a hospital setting.
Neonatal Transporter at Morton Plant
2023 Grant Funding:Neonatal Transporter at Morton PlantGrant funded was used for a neonatal transporter with an integrated ventilator to be utilized to transport critical neonates from the Cantonis-ER and Operating Rooms to the hospital's Labor and Delivery and NICU. The transporter will allow for more effective immediate stabilization of the preterm infant, leading to decreased length of stay and improved critical outcomes.

2022 Grant Funding:da Vinci Robot at Morton PlantRobotically-assisted surgery, compared to open traditional surgeries, are minimally invasive and can provide the patient with the added benefits of less blood loss, minimal scarring, less trauma to the body, shorter length of stay in the hospital and lowering the risk of infection, resulting in faster recovery, fewer complications, improved outcomes, and ultimately back to normal life.
Eleanor Thompson Earn As You Learn
2022 Grant Funding:Eleanor Thompson Earn As You LearnPatient care technicians are a vital member of the patient care delivery team. They provide direct patient care and spend the majority of time in direct contact with the patient and family. This program provides one of the very few avenues for team members to train for a new role, receive instruction and clinical experience in one of our hospitals, while continuing to earn a salary and benefits.
Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Cath Lab
2022 Grant Funding:Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Cath LabMorton Plant North Bay Hospital will now be able to upgrade its cardiac catheterization lab with the Philips Azurion image guided therapy platform. This equipment allows clinicians to perform complex interventional procedures such as angioplasty, a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure that opens narrowed or blocked arteries that supply blood to the heart, more precisely.

Mammography Voucher Program
2021 Grant Funding:Mammography Voucher ProgramBreast cancer found early, when it’s small and has not spread, is easier to treat successfully. The Mammography Voucher Program helps to reduce the barriers low-income, underinsured Pinellas County women face in obtaining comprehensive breast cancer screenings, diagnostic exams, and breast cancer treatment at no cost to the patient.
Nursing Excellence Campaign
2021 Grant Funding:Nursing Excellence CampaignIt goes without saying that this year, more so than any other year, is especially meaningful to pause and celebrate our health care heroes. Our fearless nurses’ dedication, commitment, and courage to keep our community healthy and safeguard all who walk through our hospitals’ doors deserve our deepest respect.
Family Care Fund program
2021 Grant Funding:Family Care Fund programWith a record number of our hospitals’ team members facing unanticipated financial uncertainty during these unprecedented times, assistance to Morton Plant Mease team members is available through the Family Care Fund. Examples of how your support helps include mortgage and rent, utilities, food and car payments.

Ptak Memory Disorders Clinic
2020 Grant Funding:Ptak Memory Disorders ClinicThe Madonna Ptak Center for Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Clinic provides comprehensive care to patients with Alzheimer's and other memory loss disorders using a multi-disciplinary approach with the goal of reducing the long-term impact of memory disorders and helping the patient live a more functional life.
NEONATAL BABY SIMULATOR
2020 Grant Funding:NEONATAL BABY SIMULATORSimulation will allow nurses and physicians to practice responding to life threatening emergencies that are infrequent, but have the potential to be devastating to families. The simulator will assist team members in learning how to evaluate a newborn, make decisions about what actions to take and practice the steps involved in resuscitation.
Palliative Care Program
2020 Grant Funding:Palliative Care ProgramFocuses on relieving suffering and supporting the best possible quality of life for patients and their families facing serious illness. The team may include specialized physicians, nurses, counselors and chaplains working together with the patient, family and caregivers to relieve suffering in all stages of disease and is not limited to end of life care.

Past Women in Philanthropy Grants

Each year, the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease present opportunities for programs requiring new or additional funding to the members of Women in Philanthropy, who, after careful consideration, vote as a group to decide where their gifts will be distributed. Since the groups’ inception, more than $2 million has been designated to the hospitals as a result of the collective giving of this special group of committed and health-conscious women.

The close connection between the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease and their neighbors reveal a unique spirit of giving – a relationship characterized by people caring for the hospitals that care for them.
